How to Add a New Experiment

1. To add a new experiment, go to the experiment list on the Experiment Administration website (http://bl-psy-appsrv.ads.iu.edu/exper/index.php) and click the "Add New Experiment" button.

2. Fill in the following information:

  • Experiment name
    • This is the name that subjects see when they sign up for an experiment. This should be generic, such as the name that the IRB is under. Do not use any version number, internal coding, etc.
  • Faculty Sponsor
    • This is Peter Todd
  • Sponsor E-mail address
    • pmtodd@indiana.edu
  • Credits
    • An experiment lasting 0-60 minutes is worth 1 credit. An experiment lasting 61-120 minutes is worth 2 credits. The credit number entered here must match the number of credits on the consent form.
      • note: some studies have multiple consent forms for different credit numbers.
  • Description of Experiment
    • This comes from the IRB approval recruitment material
    • At the end it should include how long the experiment will last.
      • note: if it is a 1 credit experiment but lasts less than 60 minutes, this will recruit more people.

  • Special Participation Criteria
    • This comes from the screening criteria from the summary safeguard of the IRB.
      • For example, mate choice experiments usually require that the participant be heterosexual and have no knowledge of German.
    • IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE OVER 18!
  • Gender
    • This should almost always be "any". Gender requirements can be set individually for each session if necessary.
  • Native English
    • Not required
  • Handedness
    • Either
  • Classification
    • This may be unclassified or cognitive, it doesn't matter
  • Administrators
    • This should ALWAYS include abcwest, pmtodd
      • If you are a graduate student or postdoc, you may include your own username if you want
  • Closing Interval
    • This is the amount of time before the start time of the experiment that a potential subject may no longer sign up.
    • This is usually 1 hour, for example, if an experiment starts at 11 am, after 10 am, subjects may no longer sign up for it.
      • A 1 hour closing interval is helpful for research assistants so that they may check ahead of time to see whether or not they have subjects to run.
  • Multi-session
    • Leave this blank
      • No one has ever used this, it may not even work.

3. Click "Submit".
