Instructions for Adding Reference to Publications List

1. In Endnote, select References -> Add Reference

2. Enter the Author, Year, Title, Journal, Volume, Issue (if applicable) and Pages

3. If there is a PDF of the reference, save it in the following format: First author.abbreviation of journal article.year.pdf.

  • For example, a paper written by A. Wilke which was published in Cognitive Science in 2009 would have the following file name: wilke.cogsci.2009.pdf.
  • Save the reference on the z drive under z:\lab supplies & instructions \ Lab Publications.

4. In the reference box at the bottom of the Endnote screen, right click on File Attachments (towards the bottom of the page)

  • -> File Attachments -> Attach files -> Browse for file in Lab Publications -> Open

5. Ctrl+S, Ctrl+W

6. The highlighted reference will appear at the bottom of the Endnote screen.

  • Highlight the reference and Ctrl+K

7. Open Z:\Lab Supplies\Lab Publications\for website\publication list pmwiki in Crimson Editor

8. Find where the reference belongs in order on the publication list.

  • The list is organized by year and then alphabetically.
  • Type an arrow (->) to indent the citation. Then press Ctrl+V (to paste).

9. Add the appropriate keywords as links to the reference.

  • If told that one of the keywords should be “mate choice” and “simple decision heuristics,” add another line (with another ->) that says “->Keywords: [[Publications.MC|Mate Choice]] [[Publications.SDH|Simple Decision Heuristics]].”
    • This format will add links to both of those keyword pages on the website.

10. Open the web browser and go to the lab website (http://www.indiana.edu/~abcwest/pmwiki/pmwiki.php).

  • Click on Publications on the sidebar.

11. Click Edit on the top right part of the page.

  • The password is abcwest.

12. A window will appear with the text format for the page. In Crimson Editor, click Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C.

  • Then in the website window, click Ctrl+A, Ctrl+P.
    • This replaces the old text with the new text from Crimson Editor including the new citation.
  • Click Save.

13. Add the citation to each keyword page.

  • Do this by clicking on each keyword page, click edit, and then add the publication in the correct spot.
  • Publications on keyword pages are in the same date-then-alphabetical order as the main page.
    • Click Save on each new page.

14. Attach the PDF file to the website. Open WinSCP and Click Login.

15. Click on www->pmwiki->pdf. Drag the PDF from the lab publications file to the window to copy it to the website.
