New IRB
Creating a New IRB
1. Decide if you need to create an amendment for an existing IRB or create an entirely new IRB.
- Reasons you need to create a new IRB include:
- a change in risk (e.g. using deception)
- a change in the pool of subjects
- a change in methodology or research questions
2. Decide if the new IRB should be exempt, expedited or full.
- an IRB should be exempt if an existing data source is being used
- all human behavior experiments should be expedited
- an IRB should be full if it involves a greater than minimal risk
- including, but not limited to: health records, blood samples, administering electric shock, experimentation on children, administering electric shock to children
3. Details for all of these forms are on this website: http://www.researchadmin.iu.edu/HumanSubjects/IUB/hs_review_type.html
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not run subjects on your new IRB until you receive approval for it.
